Rhythm, Culture & Percussion
Our core program is built in stages:
Bucket Drumming Foundations
Develop pulse, rhythm, coordination, and group timing
World Percussion
Introduce authentic instruments including djembe and darbuka
Performance & Composition
Students create and perform structured musical pieces
Music Beyond the Classroom
Students explore music as a cultural and social practice, learning how rhythm is used in:
African drumming traditions
Middle Eastern music
Celebrations, dance, and community events
This builds cultural awareness, creativity, and deeper engagement with music.
Lesson Option Overviews
Choose an introduction, a term of regular sessions or a longer learning pathway. We’ll discuss the format around your school’s timetable, year groups and learning goals.
Taster session · 1 hour
A hands-on introduction to percussion, pulse and group playing. A practical way for students to try the program and for staff to see how it works.
Term program · 10 weeks
Five weeks of bucket drumming foundations followed by five weeks introducing world percussion and djembe. Students develop coordination, listening and ensemble skills, with opportunities for simple composition.
Semester program · 20 weeks
A deeper progression through rhythm, world percussion, composition and ensemble performance. Students also explore rhythm reading, patterns and musical structure, with opportunities to prepare a showcase performance.

Meet Ash Barkho
Ash Barkho is a qualified secondary music teacher, audio engineer and professional percussionist. He combines classroom experience with live performance and studio work to make musical skills practical and approachable.
His sessions focus on hands-on participation, clear progression and confidence through performance. Rhythm and world percussion help students connect musical ideas with culture and everyday experience.
Ash works with school staff to plan structured sessions, support classroom management and connect activities to learning outcomes.
